Multiply - Scottish Borders

Multiply is a UK Government funded programme, launched as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), to help transform the lives of adults across by improving their numeracy skills.

The Scottish Borders Multiply Team are offering a range of free adult numeracy programmes which aim to increase your confidence in using maths in daily life, at home and at work.

We offer bespoke formal and informal learning opportunities to suit your needs. Including courses such as:

  • To increase your confidence and skills in using numbers
  • Allowing you to study for a numeracy qualification
  • Developing your everyday maths skills for managing money, cooking, gardening etc

 

Who can apply?

The programme is open to residents of the Scottish Borders aged 19+, who do not currently hold a maths qualification at National 5 or above.

    MICREA NUMERACY AND SCIENCE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WITH WORK PLACEMENT

    Would you like to develop your understanding of basic numeracy and its functional use?

    Interested to learn more about their application in the real world?

    Micrea is proud to present a unique 10-week course that bridges everyday numeracy with the intriguing world of science and technology.

    Location: Micrea Labs, Micrea Ltd, Crown Business Centre, 20-22 High Street, Hawick, TD9 9EH with potential virtual sessions.

    LINKS COMMUNITY COOKING CLASSES

    Aged 19 and over and looking to build your confidence with numbers?

    Join our cooking class, we'll make delicious, nutritious easy to make meals on a budget. We will double up recipes to batch cook, convert recipes into their units, slow cook and much more. Each week you will take home a recipe bag to make again at home.

    Important Details:

    Duration: 8 weeks, 24 hours in total per participant.

    Time: 10:30am to 1:30pm

    Location: Eyemouth Community Centre

    Course is FREE to attend, all eight classes must be attended.

    During the class a light lunch or meal will be shared.

    Support with travel and childcare can be given if required.

    COMMUNITY ROLE-PLAYING GROUPS

    A  fun way to upskill your maths whilst playing one of the worlds favourite role-playing games - Dungeons & Dragons!

    Meet new people and learn how to play. All materials are provided and you even get some dice to take home.

    The games involve a variety of mathematical elements such as:

    • Managing resources such as currency, equipment, and supplies
    • Probability
    • Statistics
    • Geometry and Spatial Reasoning
    • Symbols, formulas
    • Enhancing problem-solving abilities
    • Developing critical thinking

    Cameron Hall, along with Multiply will deliver a series of group sessions of Community Role-playing Games (RPGs) across Peebles, Galashiels and Innerleithen. They are free to participants over 19 years old.

    Spaces available for 6 people per group – and the groups will be running for 6 weeks.
