Background

Balfour Beatty secured funding from the CITB Industry Impact Fund to launch a Construction Skills Training programme until October 2026.

Balfour Beatty partnered with Capital City Partnership (CCP) as the lead delivery partner for the project, which is aligned with the Integrated Regional Employability and Skills programme for the Edinburgh South East Scotland City Region Deal. The project will see the coordination of 10 short-term training academies across a 2-year lifespan throughout Scotland, tying into the City Region Deal geographical boundaries.

The program will support 100 individuals from diverse backgrounds to gain construction skills for employment within the industry. The project will address construction skills shortages while promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) by targeting underrepresented groups.

Participants will receive support to address any barriers/needs and receive high-quality training, matched work placements, and post-course employability support. The training content will include REHIS, Vehicle Banksman, Fire Awareness, Abrasive Wheels, Manual Handling, Working at Heights, and CSCS Practice & Test, with additional focus on Health and wellbeing.
